Throwing items into our blue bins has become part of our daily lives but have you ever wondered how many times the items we throw into our blue bins can be recycled?

Aluminum cans

These can be recycled infinitely. It is  times more valuable then any other recycled item. It can be made into a new can in as little as 60 days from the time you put it into your blue bin.

Paper

5-7 times. Printer and copy paper can be recycled 5 to 7 times before the fibers become to short and need to be combined with other paper or used for other purposes. Newspaper on the other hand  is already made of low quality and can be made into new newspaper or egg cartons.

Metals

Infinitely. Metals, copper and steel can be recycled over and over again because they do not lose their quality. It is cheaper to recycle metal than to make new metal and steel scrap metal can be melted into new metal with an hour.

Cardboard

Many times. Cardboard has strong fibers and is often recycled into new paper and building products.

Glass

Infinitley. Like metal, glass does not lose its value or quality when recycled.

Plastic

Its complicated. Often plastic can only be recycled into the same item once but it depends on the type of plastic. Plastic fibers can be used in furniture, clothing, road ways, and carpet.

Expanded Polystyrene

Tricky. This is a plastic that can be melted down into new packaging material or you may find it in homes for insulation purposes. Although most recycling depots do not acccept it because it takes up so much space.
